Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 29, 2026
This policy explains what information the Pricestar app ("Pricestar", "we", "us") and the website pricestar.app collect, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. Pricestar is developed by Omkar Kale.
1. What we collect
| Information | Why we use it | Where it's kept |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous app ID: a random identifier and secret created when you first open the app. | To recognize your app so we can keep your watched products and alerts. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or advertising ID. | On your device (Keychain) and on our server. |
| Search text and scanned barcode numbers | To find products and prices. | Not stored with your app ID. Search results are cached on our server for up to 12 hours (barcode lookups up to 7 days) so repeat searches are faster; the cache isn't linked to anyone. |
| Your city and country, from your device location or the city you pick | To show prices and stores near you. | On your device, and on our server with your app ID. Precise location never leaves your device; only the city name is sent. |
| Watched products and any target price you set | To check prices and alert you when they drop. | Our server, until you stop watching or delete your data. |
| Price alerts we've sent you | To show your alerts inbox. | Our server, until you delete your data. |
| Push notification token, if you allow notifications | To deliver price-drop alerts. | Our server, until you turn notifications off, reinstall, or delete your data. |
| Time zone and app version | To send alerts at sensible times and keep the app working. | Our server. |
| Liked products and recent searches | Your wishlist and search history. | Only on your device. We never receive them. |
| Technical logs: IP address, request path, time, and response status | Security, preventing abuse, and fixing problems. | Our server, automatically deleted after 30 days. |
| App events: install, app opens, finishing the intro, free trial starts and subscriptions (with price and currency), plus basic device information | To measure which of our ads bring people to Pricestar (Meta), and subscription analytics (RevenueCat). | Sent to Meta and RevenueCat, under their policies. |
| Advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you tap "Allow" on Apple's tracking prompt | To attribute installs and subscriptions to our ads. | Sent to Meta and RevenueCat. |
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location or browsing history. If you pick a photo to read a barcode, it is processed on your device and never uploaded.
2. Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple tells the app whether you have an active subscription so it can unlock Pricestar Pro.
3. Services we work with
We share only what each service needs to do its job, and we don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
- SearchAPI (searchapi.io) retrieves Google Shopping results. It receives search text, barcode numbers, product identifiers, and your city and country.
- DeepSeek (deepseek.com) is an AI service that helps rank listings and names scanned products. It receives search text, barcode numbers, and the titles and prices of product listings.
- Google: while you type, the app asks Google's public search-suggestion service for suggestions. Google receives the text you type and your IP address, as with any web request.
- Apple delivers push notifications (Apple Push Notification service), handles purchases (App Store), and turns your location into a city name or powers city search (Core Location and MapKit).
- Cloudflare protects and speeds up our website and server, and processes IP addresses and request data to do so.
- Contabo hosts our server in France (European Union).
- Meta (Facebook SDK) receives app events and device information to measure our Facebook and Instagram ads, and your advertising identifier if you allow tracking. See Meta's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat receives your anonymous app ID and subscription history (plan, trial, renewals) for subscription analytics, and passes subscription events to Meta for ad measurement. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
When you open a store's page from Pricestar, you're on that store's website and its own privacy policy applies. Pricestar does not use affiliate tracking.
4. Advertising measurement
Pricestar shows no ads inside the app. We advertise Pricestar on Facebook and Instagram, and use Meta's SDK and RevenueCat to see which ads lead to installs and subscriptions. iOS asks whether Pricestar may track you; if you tap "Ask App Not to Track", your advertising identifier is never shared and Meta can only use Apple's privacy-preserving measurement (SKAdNetwork). You can change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Some search results are marked "Ad" because the store paid Google to promote them; we don't receive anything for showing them.
5. How long we keep data
- Watched products, alerts and your push token: until you remove them or delete your data.
- Your app ID and related data: deleted automatically if the app hasn't been used for 12 months.
- Cached search results: up to 12 hours (barcode lookups up to 7 days), not linked to you.
- Server logs: 30 days.
6. Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: in the app, open Settings → Delete my data. This erases your app ID, watched products, alerts and push token from our server, and your likes and searches from your device.
- Notifications: turn price alerts off in Pricestar's Settings, or turn notifications off in iOS Settings.
- Location: choose "Choose later" or pick a city by hand instead of sharing your location. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings.
- Tracking: tap "Ask App Not to Track" when iOS asks, or turn it off later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Access or questions: email us. Because we don't know who you are, we may ask you for your app ID (shown in Settings → Support) to find your data.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you have the right to access, correct, delete or move your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it's used. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Where the GDPR applies, we process data to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract) and, for security logs, for our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe.
7. Security
All connections use encryption (HTTPS). Your app's secret is stored only as a one-way hash on our server. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum.
8. Children
Pricestar isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
